Class News

We finally have our USB headphones so that we can con access and use Rosetta Stone! We are also in the process of purchasing BrainPop ESL which will be great to use in different subject areas.

2nd Grade

Chapter 4 Skills: 2-digit addition with and without regrouping using various strategies. These 2nd graders are doing a great job in math! We are already ahead of the pacing guide. So, from time to time, we will take a break from the book for some STEM activities!

3rd Grade
Chapter 4 Skills:  multiplication facts; use skip counting, number lines, pictures, and models to multiply; break apart arrays; the Commutative, Distributive, and Associative Properties; identify & explain patterns on the multiplication table; problem solving. We will be having drill-type practices in order to become more fluent with our multiplication facts. In a week or two, we will begin our "icecream party" incentive. I will send more information out soon.

4th Grade
Chapter 4 Skills:  estimating quotients; use models to divide whole numbers; divide tens, hundreds, and thousands by whole numbers through 10; use compatible numbers; Distributive Property; repeated subtraction; partial quotients; problem solving. Division is tough! We will spend a lot of time on this subject to ensure everyone is successful.

5th Grade
Chapter 4 Skills:  multiplying decimals using various strategies. We are flying through this chapter, too! Our M4T has helped us with this skill by providing a lot of "pre-teaching." This means that we were familiar with the skill before we even started the chapter.

Grades for this quarter will be taken from the mid-chapter checkpoints and end of unit assessments. I may also pull additional assessments if I feel that a particular skill was not adequately assessed. Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades will also be given a grade for their Math 4 Today weekly assessments.

Workbooks will be sent home after each chapter is complete. Occasionally, you will see a paper or two from my class in your child's take home folder, but not many!! I will also be incorporating "brain teasers" into my curriculum. They may not always be math related, but these are great for challenging and broadening the minds of gifted children and high achievers.
